Based on the Center for Land-Based Learning’s Student and Landowner Education and Watershed (SLEWS) Program, our Education and Restoration teams hosted two field days for Oak Park High School students to gain hands-on field experience and receive mentorship from environmental professionals.

The California Coastal Commission funded the Santa Paula Coastal Access Program between 2022-2024. The funding allowed the VCRCD to take Santa Paula 5th graders to various field trips along the coastline after school.
Students enjoyed recreational activities such as biking, whale watching, birding, hiking, and nature journaling.

With Friends of the Santa Clara River, the VCRCD developed an outdoor classroom near the Fillmore Fish Hatchery, restored native vegetation to the connected nature trail, and hosted several after school lessons to local students.
