The Ag Family Summer Program consisted of 5 free trips to coastal destinations throughout Ventura County. In collaboration with Friends of Fieldworkers, United Farm Workers, and Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation, over 50 youth from farmworker families participated in this program. Connecting children and the general public to the California Coast and its watersheds through experiential education, stewardship, and outdoor experiences
On June 25, 2026 35 students and chaperones embarked on an Island Packers ferry ride to Santa Cruz Island! On the boat, we observed local wildlife, like Common Dolphins (Delphinus Capensis), Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), and even Humpback Whales (Megaptera novaeangliae)! On the island, we went on a hike guided by an Island Packers employee, Maria. We learned about the history and natural resources of the island, as well as the abundant recreational opportunities Santa Cruz Island provides. At the end of our trip, we enjoyed the beach and sun!

On July 2, 2026 __ students and chaperones visited the Ventura Harbor! We began our day at the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center, where we explored touch tanks, the lookout, and watched an informative movie on Santa Cruz Island. After some time on the beach, we rode pedal boats in the Ventura Harbor. Participants learned about sandy beach ecology and the importance of clean waterways.

On July 9, 2026 __ students and chaperones visited Carpinteria! We completed a nature walk along Carpinteria State Beach, observing native plants, wildlife, and tar seeping out of the ground! At the end of our walk, we made it to the Carpinteria Seal Rookery, where we saw Harbor Seals (Phoca vitulina) swimming in the ocean. After a lunch picnic, we enjoyed the Visitor Center and spent time on the beach.

On July 16, 2026 __ students and chaperones visited San Buenaventura State Beach! We began our day with Cleo, an interpreter from California State Parks. Cleo led us through nature journaling prompts, and taught us about erosion, driftwood, and beach debris. After some beach play, participants had the opportunity to ride bike rentals along the bike path.

On July 23, 2026 __ students and chaperones visited Point Mugu State Park! We hiked the Point Mugu Scenic Trail, ending up at a beautiful overlook of the state park. After our hike, we completed some nature journaling and State Parks employees specially opened the Sycamore Nature Center for us! We observed taxidermy mountain lions, owls, hawks, and more. We then made our way to Mugu Rock Beach, where we flew kites and enjoyed some fun in the sun.
