Fire Preparedness

All Drop-Off Chipping Days will be located at Help of Ojai West Campus 

Simply leave your yard waste curbside! Please make sure your material is eligible to be chipped. 

All material must be piled in a location easily accessible by the chipping vehicle. Vehicle will not leave a roadway to access a green waste pile. Crews will not drag material long distances or over fences.


Pile size limited to one ton. Pile dimensions no larger than 15 feet by 15 feet by 4 feet. Chips will be left on-site. Chips can be used around the property as mulch.

Chipping will be done in your neighborhood on these dates and times only!

Chipping will occur between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.  Please leave chipping materials out by 7:00 a.m. 

Chipping slots are limited and will be assigned based on date and time of receipt of application.

Ojai Valley Wildfire Prevention Program

The Ventura County Resource Conservation District has received grant funds to provide free chipping and brush clearance services for neighborhoods in the Ojai Valley and down to Casitas Springs, who are willing to work to make their property fire-safe. Funding has been provided by a grant from the Cooperative Fire Program of the U.S. Forest Service, Department of Agriculture, Pacific Southwest Region, through the California Fire Safe Council.

Drop-Off Chipping Days

Fuel treatments will reduce hazards associated with hazardous material on properties in the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) of the Ojai Valley area. 

The WUI neighborhoods that have been identified as target areas include:

- Nye Road and environs of Casitas Springs

- Santa Ana Road and environs in Casitas Springs and Oak View

- Creek Road and environs in Oak View and Mira Monte

- Sulphur Mountain Road, Sisar Road, and Highway 150

Registration Deadline is 12 Noon the Thursday prior to your curbside chipper service date!

To qualify for the brush clearance program, you must be low or fixed income, disabled, a disabled veteran, or a senior citizen. If you have questions, please call the C.R.E.W. at (805) 649-8847 to see if you qualify. This is a service that clears the 100' defensible space around an inhabited structure of larger brush, low lying limbs, and hazardous fuels up to 6’ height per fire department requirements.

Chipping is a GREAT way to clear your property of potential fire hazards. Disposing of green waste without burning also helps preserve our air quality. Take advantage of these FREE chipping opportunities that will help create defensible space around your home.

There are two (2) types of chipping opportunities - Drop-Off and Curbside.

CLEAN yard waste only (tree limb and branches no larger than 4" in diameter, brush, etc.) -


NO metal, nails, barbwire, garbage, rocks, etc. 

Grass, vines, bark, and piles of leaves, juniper bushes, palm fonds and other light material, processed lumber, and other non-vegetation material

All fuel treatments (chipping and brush clearance services) will be implemented by the Concerned Resource & Environmental Workers (C.R.E.W.), an environmentally oriented nonprofit youth leadership and employment organization located in Ojai, CA provides leadership and job training, paid employment and community service opportunities to local youth aged 14 to 23, while providing the resources needed to preserve, maintain, and improve public and private wild lands, protect local communities against the threat of wildfire, and assist with wildfire recovery.

This program is limited to vegetation clearance services on 25 properties in 2019 on a first come, first served basis. Completing the form (right) does not necessarily mean that the applicant is approved for the program. The applicant will be notified within 24 hours of completing the form.


Please note, that if approved, this work may be performed after the June 1st fire clearance deadline, with the approval of the Ventura County Fire Department.

Help of Ojai West Campus (former Honor Farm) is at 307 W. Baldwin Road, Ojai. When going west on Baldwin Road, turn left into the entrance at the Help of Ojai sign just past Flora Gardens. Make an immediate left into the first parking lot.
